Volodimir Zelensky is an incredibly good pusher who eventually gets everything he wants. But often this happens with a huge delay. Foreign commentator Bernard Hummelberg says it would be too devastating in a war.

On his request for long-range weapons, Zelensky has so far received no response from US President Joe Biden, who does not want to bring things to a head domestically. For now, Zelenski is mainly focused on the development of drones, which are relatively cheap and work well. The real blows have to come from there, says Hummelberg. “In themselves, the Ukrainians do it well: they have developed a kind of torpedo drone.”

Biden still seems to have one foot on the accelerator and one foot on the brake. Because of this, says Hummelberg, less is happening to Ukraine than it could be. And what happens always happens too late. Germany is also always very reluctant to take important decisions, for example about anti-aircraft defense.’

America is running out of money

Hummelburg says patience is a virtue. But gridlock in America can become a real problem. So far, Biden can live on more than $100 billion that the previous Congress appropriated for Ukraine, but it’s running slowly. Now 26 billion dollars of new money has been asked for, but now there are more voices that it is not accepted.

70 percent of Republicans oppose any new aid to Ukraine, especially to the two leading Republican presidential candidates. Hummelburg says there is still enough support, but it will be very difficult. If you compare it with the passing time, I think it is right that Zelensky is now trying to get as many responsibilities as possible. Because the possibility of American intervention is increasing more and more.’
