Sony introduces the WF-1000XM5 earplugs. These wireless headphones have a new design and improved noise cancellation. The WF-1000XM5 earplugs will be released in August and will cost €320.

WF-1000XM5 earbuds You have an updated designSony reports Monday evening. The earplugs are about 25 percent smaller and 20 percent lighter than their predecessor. The XM5 earplugs also feature a glossy design, where the current WF-1000XM4 earplugs have a matte finish. Sony supplies the XM5 earplugs in four different sizes, as there were three with its predecessor.

The XM5 weighs 5.9 grams and features larger Dynamic Drivers X at 8.4 mm in diameter. The drivers in the XM4 earplugs are 6mm in diameter. The earplug also has an extra microphone compared to the XM4 earplugs. Sony supplies the earphones with a new V2 integrated processor, which is the successor to the V1 from the XM4. This works with the HD Noise Canceling Processor QN2e. According to Sony, these additional microphones and new chips are used to improve noise cancellation.

The new earbuds also offer support for Bluetooth multipoint. The previous WF-1000XM4 did not have this feature upon release, although it was added later via a firmware update. The earbuds also support the LDAC audio codec, as well as Bluetooth multipoint and DSEE Extreme. The WF-1000XM5 also has bone conduction sensors and Precise Voice Pickup technology, which should better pick up the wearer’s voice during conversations, even in noisy environments.

The earplugs also achieve up to eight hours of battery life on a single charge. With the charging case, the total battery life is 24 hours. This has not changed from the XM4. The charging case can be charged wirelessly via the Qi standard, and the earphones have received IPX4 water resistance certification.

Sony will release the WF-1000XM5 in August. It is not known when exactly the earplugs will appear. The suggested retail price for the headphones is €320. That’s €40 more than the current WF-1000XM4 earbuds, which Sony released last year for €280.
