Spotify has discontinued the Spotify Live audio app. The company has given no reason for this, but says it no longer makes sense to have a separate app for viewing live music shows. Some functions are integrated into Spotify itself.

Spotify confirms the cancellation to ally music. Spotify Live is a standalone app where artists can stream live performances. Other live events such as radio shows or interviews with artists can also be organized.

According to Spotify, there is no longer a good reason to offer such an app independently. The company says it’s experimented with live audio for a while and learned a lot from it, but it shouldn’t exist as a separate app. Spotify wants to integrate certain parts of the service into the Spotify app itself, but the company doesn’t say which ones exactly. Spotify says there are “promising results” about what the company calls “listening parties” with artists. These are live streams where fans can chat with artists.

Spotify acquired the app in 2021. The app was then named Locker Room and was part of a startup that Spotify took over at the time. The app was initially intended for interaction between athletes and their fans, but the app was later renamed Greenroom and later Spotify Live for music artists. The app appears to be a competitor to Clubhouse, but it had to deal with less and less active users. The company doesn’t say anything about specific user numbers for Spotify Live.
