Queen Elizabeth’s eight grandchildren saw their grandmother on Saturday night. For fifteen minutes, they stood by the coffin in Westminster Hall as the audience walked in and out of the hall to greet the Queen for the last time.
The vigil began at 7 pm Dutch time. Prince William led the group to the coffin, followed by Prince Harry, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, and Lady Louise and James, Viscount of Severn. Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips were the last to enter the room.
William and Harry, in uniform, stood at the head and foot of the coffin. The other grandchildren, all dressed in black, sat on the corners and sides.

Like Elizabeth’s four children, who watched her on Friday night, the grandchildren looked down for a full quarter of an hour. Prince Edward, his wife Sophie and parents Louise and James watched from afar.
It was a special moment for Prince Harry. As he is no longer an active member of the British royal family, he has lost his honorary titles and is not usually allowed to wear his uniform. King Charles made an exception for vigilance. He’s done the same before to his brother, Prince Andrew.
