The FBI says former President Trump was shot two weeks ago by the gunman who tried to assassinate him. The FBI is offering a clarification after CEO Wray caused confusion on the matter in Congress earlier this week.

“We’re still wondering if it was a bullet or shrapnel in his ear,” Wray said on the House floor on Wednesday. Trump reacted angrily to the suggestion that it could have been anything other than a bullet. “Unfortunately, it was a bullet that hit my ear, and it hit me hard. It wasn’t glass or shrapnel.”

His doctor, who treated him in recent weeks, says Trump was shot. “There is absolutely no evidence that it was anything other than a bullet. And Ray was completely wrong to suggest that it could have been anything other than a bullet.”

On July 13, a 20-year-old man shot Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, hitting him in the ear. One spectator was killed and several others were injured.

The Republican presidential candidate said Friday he wants to return to the town of Butler, where the assassination attempt took place, saying he wants to pay tribute to the man who died in the attack and to those wounded.

He did not say when or where the event would take place. Last week, news leaked that his security agency, the Secret Service, had urged him not to hold any more outdoor meetings during his campaign.
