Software Update: Blender 4.2.0 – PC – Downloads

EEVEE Next Generation Blender 4.2 LTS

After more than two years of development, the EEVEE Next project has produced a major evolution of the Blender rendering system, which is set to be a major feature of the upcoming 4.2 LTS release.


Project goals

The EEVEE Next project aims to modernize the viewport display, address technical debt, and overcome current design limitations. The main goal of the project was to improve the performance and visual quality of the viewport display, resulting in a better user experience when creating, animating, and rendering 3D scenes.


What has changed

The viewport system is now more predictable and supports a wider range of lighting and shading conditions at angles. A new shadow system has been introduced that provides more stable and higher quality shadows, while maintaining memory efficiency. Other noteworthy features are a new global illumination system, unlimited lights in the scene, improved volume rendering, motion blur, and depth of field.
