Samsung has announced its new affordable smartphone, the Galaxy A06. The device costs a little, but you don’t get much either. And unlike most new smartphones, the new phone doesn’t have AI features.
New Galaxy A06 It was only officially introduced by Samsung in Vietnam. The budget device will only come to other countries later this year. The Galaxy A06 is not much different from its predecessor and has the same MediaTek Helio G85 chipset and 50MP main camera. The 5,000mAh battery can be charged at 25W. The device has 4 or 6GB of RAM and 64 or 128GB of storage.
The biggest differences compared to its predecessor are a slightly different design with the so-called Key Island, a notch on the right side of the phone where both the volume rocker and the fingerprint sensor are located. The 6.7-inch display has also been improved in one respect: the screen now has a 90Hz refresh rate instead of 60Hz.
Not a word about artificial intelligence
Samsung didn’t mention anything about AI in the announcement, so there’s a good chance you won’t be able to use Galaxy AI features with this device. The lack of AI features has become a rarity among new gadgets. Samsung offers a handy “Circle to Search” feature for its cheaper Galaxy A phones, but this feature works on the Galaxy A34 and later, not the cheaper Galaxy A devices.
The Galaxy A06 comes with Android 14 and we will continue to run it for the foreseeable future, as we still have to wait a while for Android 15 to arrive. We don’t know yet how many years of Android updates you will get with this new device.
Prices
Vietnamese prices are €115 (64GB storage and 4GB RAM) and €137 (128GB storage and 6GB RAM). It is not yet known when the Galaxy A06 will be released in other countries, so it may take a few months.
Earlier this year, Samsung also launched the cheap Galaxy A05s in the Netherlands, which had a suggested retail price of €159 at the time. You can now buy it for less than €130.
