Microsoft’s auto super-resolution feature isn’t exclusive to Snapdragon Microsoft’s help page suggests this is the case, but Qualcomm says it’s because there aren’t Copilot+ PC Socs yet.

Microsoft says the auto super-resolution technology now only works with Qualcomm’s SoC, as there are currently only Copilot+ PC laptops on sale with the Snapdragon SoC. If other OEMs come to market that “meet Microsoft’s performance requirements,” they will also be able to run Automatic Super Resolution. Which Qualcomm told The Verge.

Previously, it seemed that the upgrade feature would only work with Qualcomm Socs, because Microsoft’s help page only talks about automatic super resolution About Snapdragon socks and arm. Microsoft itself has not yet answered the questions of what Auto SR SoCs should work on and whether the function will also work with x86-based PCs.

Microsoft introduced the first Copilot+ PC systems last week. These are systems that have built-in hardware to perform artificial intelligence computing tasks, or npus. For now, only laptops with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor. In the long term, AMD and Intel should also release SoCs suitable for the Copilot + PC system. It appears that these systems should also be able to run Auto SR, although this has not yet been confirmed.

Auto SR is a feature that reduces game accuracy and then improves it using artificial intelligence. This should result in higher frame rates in games. The feature is enabled by default in some verified games and can also be enabled in others. These programs must be running DirectX 11 or 12 and be Arm emulator or native. Auto SR is separate from DirectSR, an application programming interface (API) that allows developers to more easily use other upscaling implementations, such as Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR, in games.
