Noctua will release the successor to the NH-D15 cooler in the coming weeks. The Austrian cooler manufacturer confirmed this during the Computex 2024 trade fair in Taiwan. Noctua will release the first version of the new 140mm fan in the same period. Prices are not yet known.

Noctua calls the new processor cooler the NH-D15 G2. The company says it has made several changes. The radiator has eight Heat pipes instead of six. However, the G2 has an asymmetric design with less depth than the regular NH-D15, which helps with memory compatibility.

The right fan on the “outside” of the cooler spins slightly faster than the fan on the “inside” of the heatsink. According to the cooler’s manufacturer, the G2 produces sound at a frequency that sounds more pleasant than when both fans are running at the same speed.

According to Noctua, the cooler also performs better than the current NH-D15. At a load of 250 watts, the new cooler should cool 3.2°C better than the old cooler. The company also claims that the previous NH-D15 managed to cool a 460W heat tester to 60°C. The G2 was able to cool a 620-watt heat tester to the same temperature, according to the company.

The NH-D15 G2 will also be available for the first time in three different versions: the “Standard Edition”, an HBC variant specifically dedicated to Intel LGA-1700 CPUs, and an LBC model optimized for the AMD AM5 socket. The manufacturer also says that there may be performance differences between different CPUs and their installation methods. For example, LGA-1700 processors, which are not yet used in PC, still have a somewhat limited range. In this case, users can also install 1mm washers under the CPU frame of the socket. This should “significantly” limit the extent to which the heat spreader deforms, thus slightly limiting the performance advantage of the HBC variant. The washer system is not recommended for users who have been using their LGA-1700 CPU for some time.

AMD users who have Displacement arc , which moves the cooler slightly lower to make better contact with the processor’s contact points, will also notice fewer differences between the G2 variants, Noctua claims. The cooler manufacturer has shared performance claims for the three G2 variants installed on different processors. At AMD, different variants are tested with and without displacement arc. According to Noctua, the G2 will appear in stores in June, although a specific release date has not been announced yet. The company also did not mention the suggested retail price on Computex. Noctua will also soon release the first version of its NF-A14x25 G2 fan. The company previously showcased it during Computex 2023, but will actually launch it on the market in June. According to Noctua, the fan provides better airflow and higher static pressure.
