Microsoft has amended the wording surrounding the potential final halt to further development of the Control Panel. The company now says it will move many settings from the Control Panel to Settings.

On the updated support page, Microsoft now writes under the Control Panel heading: “Many settings are being moved from Control Panel to the Settings app, which provides a more modern and streamlined experience,” so Ars Technica notesMicrosoft previously wrote that Control Panel development would be phased out in favor of Settings, as Tweakers previously noted.

With the revised statement, Microsoft seems to be indicating that the Control Panel’s functionality, despite moving certain options to Settings, will not be completely replaced by the latest app. On the other hand, it’s not clear why the company originally drafted the information on the support page and then changed it.

At this time, the Windows maker has not explained outside of its support page what concrete future plans it has for the screen in question. The Settings app was first released for Windows 8 in 2012. Since then, Microsoft has regularly moved individual “applets” from the Control Panel to the general settings.
