Imagine turning on the TV at seven o’clock and one of the first news you see is about that Conclusion US to ban all Kaspersky software.

That’s what happened. German Broadcasters It thereby informed citizens and institutions of the announcement in Washington at midnight Dutch time.

Beginning September 29, 2024, Kaspersky software will no longer be offered in any form to citizens and companies in the United States. This ban has already been applied to governments since 2018, so it is now being extended. Offering free or sample packages is also prohibited.

Companies offering software on their digital marketplaces must remove it and have the option to update it.

For Kaspersky, the poison cup is not yet empty. AO Kaspersky Lab, Kaspersky Group (Russia) and Kaspersky Labs Limited (United Kingdom) are included in the “Company List”. This is a blacklist of individuals and entities that US citizens and entities are prohibited from doing business with directly or indirectly.

International consequences

The impact of the latter is enormous and extends far beyond the borders of the United States. Any company with an American franchise (think the big broadliners) must sever ties with the three blacklisted companies. Doing business with Kaspersky is no longer possible there.

It is therefore inevitable that the international consequences of this tightening of US actions will be large. This is different from the fact that other countries may impose bans or variations on their own.
