Jim Bakum, 36, has been having a hard time this week with the emotions he’s been experiencing at the end of his son Lux’s elementary school years. “I just need some time to find some words for this week. I know this sounds really dramatic. Anyway, I wasn’t prepared for the feelings that have completely overwhelmed me this week,” Jim shares with a photo of his son.

“This week I felt like everything was going to disappear in one fell swoop.”

In his letter, Jim recalls the time his son went to elementary school for the first time. “This week I had exactly the same gloomy feeling. We had the eighth grade musical, the crazy final concert, and his kids’ party — the one I was so longing for. I got more proud every day. But suddenly it also got sadder,” the singer and actor writes. “All those years of elementary school, the reports, the conversations with teachers, the ups and downs, the friendships he built with his amazing friends, his 7.5-year relationship with the sweetest girl imaginable… This week it felt like it was all going to disappear in one fell swoop.”

Jim is well aware that things are going to change. He has deliberately taken this time off from work so that he can support his son in the process. “Although my mom and dad are more involved in it than he is,” Jim concludes. “Man, sometimes I get tired of getting old. I’m very proud of my bridge pager.
