A wildfire in the Canadian village of Jasper has been brought under control. The fire partially destroyed the village. According to the province of Alberta, the fire in the surrounding nature reserve is out of control.

According to experts, it is the largest forest fire in the region in a century. The fire was started by lightning a week ago. As far as we know, there are no casualties.

“Crews continue to work hard to prevent the fires from spreading to critical buildings and infrastructure,” said a spokesperson for Parks Canada, the organization that manages the country’s national parks. The local fire brigade is receiving assistance from firefighters from Mexico, South Africa and New Zealand.

Jasper is one of Canada’s most beautiful nature reserves. About 2.5 million tourists come to the Alberta city each year. The 25,000 people who remained in Jasper were evacuated this week, including a group of Dutch people.

And the third destroyed building

The fire has destroyed about a third of Jasper’s 1,100 buildings. In addition, 32,000 hectares of nature reserves have already been burned. Authorities expect it will take months before the fire is extinguished.
