Good news about Ivar Slik. A Dutch gravel pro has returned to the Netherlands from the US after being seriously injured in a training accident during an unbound gravel competition. This was announced by his traveling companion Niki Terpstra Instagram.

“He’s coming home with us,” Terpstra says in one InstagramA story from the airport. In the video we see the likes of Jasper Ogelon, Thomas Dekker, Thijs Sonneveld and Slick. The 31-year-old rider, who won the Unbound Gravel two years ago, is in a wheelchair. Last week, Terpstra said Slick was doing ‘fantastic’. Terpstra and Co were told their friend would make a full recovery.

It’s been exactly two weeks since Slick was hit during training. It happened during a gravel ride with Ockeloen, Zonneveld and Terpstra, with whom he prepared for Unbound Gravel. Slick hit a delivery truck on the blind left. Unconscious, he was rushed to hospital by air ambulance. It was revealed that he had a broken nose and a fracture to the back of his skull due to the impact. However, Slick has recovered well and can now return to the Netherlands.
