Google Pixel Fold prototype appears in photos – Tablets & Phones – News

An early prototype of the Google Pixel Fold can be seen in leaked images. The foldable device is codenamed Pipit and was initially expected to launch in 2022. Last year, Google still launched the Pixel Fold, but with a modified design.

Google canceled an earlier version of the Pixel Fold for unknown reasons. The manufacturer may have been unhappy with the design of the Pipit prototype. The device featured a design similar to the non-foldable Pixel 6 smartphone, with a glass camera bar. This is evident from the now-deleted images of it XDA Forum who Robot body Reposted. Ultimately, Google opted for a metal camera bar on the current Pixel Fold, like the Pixel 7 Pro.

The form factor has changed slightly and the hinge and aspect ratio remain almost the same. Since the Pipit prototype will initially be released a few months after the Pixel 6 series, its specs lag behind the current Pixel Fold. Instead of the Tensor G2 SoC with Exynos Modem 5300, the prototype was equipped with the first-generation Tensor SoC with Exynos Modem 5123. The camera system was also outdated, with the Sony IMX363 sensor that had already appeared on the Pixel 3. Furthermore, the prototype’s external display was somewhat smaller than the one on the released model, with a lower resolution.
