ASUS Shows X870 Motherboards With Dashboard Functionality in BIOS – Computer – News

I saw the Crosshair X870E Hero’s GPU “fast release” feature on der8auer’s video channel (including timestamp): YouTube: ASUS Shows Off New X870 AM5 Lineup at Gamescom 2024

I still see some risk here, an inexperienced user thinking they can simply pull the graphics card out of the slot, accidentally pulling the card too hard. This will allow them to remove the PCI-E slot entirely from the board. As far as I can see, the lock is not attached to the board via plastic slots or inserts, only with SMT solder points. With the support that the average graphics card offers these days, it is relatively easy to underestimate the amount of force you are exerting on the lock, and thus damage it as well.

I really like the dashboard feature, as long as it actually shows what is connected and available. For example, on my Gigabyte Aorus I chose this board because of the 6 SATA ports, as I use it as a workstation/NAS. I only found this out later, and if I had known earlier I probably would have chosen a different (cheaper) board, maybe with a JBOD SATA adapter, hindsight is 20/20, I can’t predict everything.

Finally, the new ProArt X870E. I believe it is the first board to officially support WiFi-7 on AM5. This is something I would have liked to have as well, but unfortunately, it is still in its early stages. I am curious about the exact chipset they used, as Intel chipsets are the only ones that support it somewhat properly. The Mediatek chip on the motherboard is so unstable on both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi that I had to buy a USB Bluetooth adapter so I could at least use my headphones normally. I also find the board layout disappointing (from a workstation/NAS perspective), with the SATA ports split between two right-angled connectors on the right side, and two straight-angled connectors on the bottom.
