Joost Klein, 26, is considering filing a defamation complaint against the Eurovision Song Contest organizer, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The management has contacted lawyer Gerard Spong, 78, according to Shownieuws.

“Jost is the right person to report.”

The news comes a day after AVROTROS announced it did not want to file a report. The broadcaster responded to an open letter from Gerard in the Volkskrant newspaper. The lawyer wrote that it was “undoubtedly a defamatory allegation” that the EBU, despite the fact that according to the Swedish Public Prosecutor’s Office there is no or insufficient evidence, continues to insist that Joost Klein “committed an act deserving of disqualification”.

Gerard finds it “weak” that AVROTROS is unwilling to prove this. “They must have their reasons for that,” he says. “They probably have to continue in the EBU next year, so they might think: we shouldn’t mess around. I think it’s lame.” Show news“Ghost is the right person to report this to. I got a phone call from Ghost’s manager and we’ll look into it.”

Last week, the Swedish prosecutor announced that the criminal investigation into Joost’s case had been dropped due to lack of evidence. The artist was disqualified from taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest final in May after colliding with a photographer. AVROTROS will soon speak to the EBU about the exclusion.

Joost and Gerard’s management could not be reached for comment Wednesday evening. AVROTROS also did not want to respond to Joost’s potential announcement.
