Seven people were killed during a concert in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They would have been wronged. An unknown number of people were injured, some in intensive care.
It happened at a concert of gospel singer Mike Kalambayi, who is popular in Congo. He performed at the Stade des Martyrs in the capital Kinshasa. There were about 30,000 visitors.
With a capacity of 80,000, the stadium was far from sold out. Photos seen by the Associated Press show large crowds of people outside the stadium. Inside, visitors run to the stage.
According to the concert organizer, things got worse when security got into trouble with a number of rioters.
Not the first time
This is not the first time that deaths have occurred in Congo during similar events. This is often due to authorities not knowing how to deal with large groups of people. In such cases, excessive force is regularly used when things get chaotic.
11 people were killed at a concert in the same stadium in 2022. Even then, people were persecuted.
