N266-N275 Traffic Project Towards Implementation Phase - Nederweert24

The Nederweert Municipal Council has taken important decisions regarding the N266-N275 project. This project has a major impact on the traffic situation in our municipality. Although there is currently no bicycle bridge over the N275, many other measures are being taken to increase road safety and traffic flow for cyclists, pedestrians and motorized traffic.

N266-N275

There is no bridge over the N275 now.
In April, the municipal council decided to remove the bridge over the Zuid-Willemsvaart. Neither the province nor the municipality has provided any additional funds for the bridge over the N275. This bridge remains part of the project scope. This means that after the completion of the high-quality cycle path Weert-Nederweert and the cycle tunnel under Randweg Zuid (N275), bicycle traffic will be monitored for three years. This will determine how useful and necessary this bridge is in the new situation. The municipality will then make a new assessment with the province.

Other measures are moving towards implementation.
The N266-N275 traffic project consists of various measures to improve the traffic situation. These are the widening of the A2 entry and exit ramps, the construction of a roundabout with parallel roads on Randweg West, the construction of a bike tunnel under Randweg Zuid (N275) near Rijksweg Zuid and the modification of the Eind roundabout. The province and the municipality will together contribute €18.2 million to these measures. The bike crossing on the N275 near McDonalds and the bike path along the N266 between Bridge 15 and the new tunnel are being improved. The municipality and the province have made available an additional €750,000 for so-called “mitigation measures”.

Safer crossing at Bridge 15
The N266 crossing at Bridge 15 is receiving the full attention of the municipality. They are investigating how to make this crossing safer for cyclists and pedestrians. The municipal council has allocated an additional €1 million for this purpose. Councillor Francine: “The safety of cyclists and pedestrians comes first. We are identifying the most appropriate measures to improve the current crossing of the N266 at Bridge 15. This will be presented to the City Council in December. Before that, we are organising an evening about the process and the result and everyone is welcome
