In Australia, Australian police said rangers shot and killed a crocodile last week, killing a 12-year-old boy. The girl was attacked by the four-metre-long reptile while swimming in a stream with her family.

The crocodile was shot dead on Sunday after police confirmed it was the crocodile that killed the girl. The local police chief hopes killing the animal will help relatives cope with the loss of the girl.

The girl disappeared last Tuesday in a stream near Palomba, a remote village of about 350 people in the Northern Territory. Following her disappearance, officers and the local community launched a massive search, including a boat and an aircraft.

Her remains were found two days later near where she disappeared. Police said the girl’s injuries showed she had been attacked by an alligator.

More crocodiles

The girl’s disappearance has sparked controversy in Australia over the number of crocodiles in the area. The number of crocodiles increased dramatically after the crocodile became a protected species in the 1970s. Since then, the number has increased from 3,000 to 100,000. However, it is relatively rare for people to be attacked by crocodiles.
