Super Mario, Tetris, Pokemon, and Pac-Man, games you may have played in the past. Do you miss that time? Then you’re in luck, there’s a (vintage) toy fair in Hoogeveen in October. The first in Drenthe.
Het Activum sports hall must become a players’ paradise if it is up to the organization. Visitors can enjoy 149 tables filled with (vintage) gaming machines, games, card games, and games. Buy, exchange, test, everything is possible.
The idea came from Hoogeveen resident Michael Steenbergen (33), who is himself addicted to all things gaming. “My studio and home office now contain a beautiful, museum-worthy collection.”
Old Nintendo game consoles, such as Gameboys and Gamecubes, can be found in display cases. “During my youth I used to play on it a lot, and when I started puberty I used to swim, but then I really started collecting things.” He now has 48, plus hundreds of matches.
“The oldest thing I have is from 1983. Nintendo’s Game & Watch Tabletop, which is sort of the predecessor to the Gameboy,” he explains. “Most people probably don’t know that. They’re more familiar with the game consoles that came later, like the NES, where you kind of press a cassette into it.”
