ASUS Shows ‘No Cables’ Z890 and X870E Motherboards – Computer – News

ASUS showed off two new motherboards compatible with new processors from Intel and AMD. The Intel Z890 board comes from the ROG line and uses ASUS’s “cable-free” concept. The company is also releasing a TUF Gaming series motherboard for AMD’s X870E chipset.

Tweakers discovered the two motherboards at the Computex exhibition in Taiwan. The AMD X870E SoCs are compatible with AMD’s recently announced Ryzen 9000 chipset. The board has two USB 4 ports based on ASMedia’s ASM4242 USB controller released early this year. The board also has a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot that has a lever that makes it easier to remove larger GPUs. Moreover, the panel supports Wi-Fi 7. The release date and cost of the component are not yet known.

ASUS also released a motherboard for the chipset based on the Intel Z890 socket. The board appears to be the Maximus Z890 Hero BTF, which falls under the ROG branding. This is a “cableless” motherboard, where the cables can be hidden at the back so that they are not visible in the case. There is also a 12Vhpwr connector for GPUs on the back of the motherboards, unlike Gigabyte’s new cableless motherboard where this connector was still in the middle. More specifications are missing, but it’s clear that the motherboard supports Wi-Fi 7 and has at least two Thunderbolt 4 ports.
