Google has started releasing several Maps AI features for specific cities and countries. For example, users in Amsterdam can use the global road view function, and artificial intelligence should improve the quality of information about speed limits.
Using the route overview function, Google Maps users in certain cities, including Amsterdam, can preview a 3D version of the route before leaving. Google says So users can get more detailed directions. Sliders will also be available with which the weather and traffic can be adjusted, after which the user can plan a custom route based on crowds for example.
Google is also adapting the search functionality with existing Live View and now calls it Lens in Maps. Users can use a smartphone camera to walk around in augmented reality, after which information about nearby businesses appears dynamically on the screen. As far as we know, this function is not yet available in Benelux countries.
Finally, the company says it has improved the Google Maps map in certain areas using artificial intelligence. For example, improved information about corridors has been released in some countries, including Germany and France. In the linked blog post, Google shows an example of an exit to Eindhoven and Utrecht, suggesting that the improved functionality will also be available in the Netherlands. In twenty European countries, the speed limit must now be displayed more accurately.
