Former British Prime Minister David Cameron began his work as Foreign Secretary with a visit to Kiev. There he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Zelensky broke up X Meeting photos. He appears in the picture greeting the British minister and shaking hands with them. The short video also shows part of the meeting.
During that meeting, the Ukrainian president said that he regretted distracting the world’s attention from the situation in his country. There is great international interest in the war between Israel and Hamas.
Cameron promised Zelensky that his country would continue to stand by Ukraine. He said that Ukrainians can continue to count on economic and military support. “Not just this year and next year, but as long as it takes.”
President Zelensky subsequently wrote that there were discussions about “weapons on the front lines, strengthening air defense and protecting Ukrainians and essential infrastructure.” He thanked the British for their support.
Cameron resigned as Prime Minister after the Brexit referendum
This week, Cameron suddenly assumed the position of Foreign Secretary in the government of his party colleague Rishi Sunak. He himself admitted that it was not common for former prime ministers to return to such a role.
The new minister was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom until 2016. He resigned after his fellow citizens voted in a referendum to leave the European Union. Cameron himself was against Brexit, but took the initiative to hold the referendum.
