Prime Minister Schoff-Torrentje will leave at the end of this month. He said this on the RTL programme. Umberto to ParisThe Prime Minister no longer opposes the decision of The Hague Mayor Van Zanen that the Schouw Torrente must be evacuated at the end of this month due to the fire risk.

If the civil servants and the prime minister do not leave, the mayor has threatened a fine of €100,000 a week.

The prime minister will soon move temporarily to Turfmarkt, the Justice, Security and Home Affairs building. The main reason they haven’t left yet, says Schoof, is that the planned location they need to go to isn’t ready yet. “We didn’t feel like we were finding a temporary solution for a few months, but that has to happen now.”

State secrets

According to Schoff, there is still a discussion with the municipality about state secrets “because a small group of our national security people have to be able to work in a way that keeps state secrets safe.” Schoff says no solution has been found yet. “So we really have to talk about it with each other.”

The prime minister told presenter Humberto Tan that the debate about leaving the tower should not be about him. “It’s a beautiful place, of course, but I’m not attached to Turinge.”

Other Binnenhof residents, including senators, members of the House of Representatives and staff, left Binnenhof much earlier. It became clear this spring that it would be much longer before they could return: not until 2028 at the earliest.

Not only will the renovation of the Binnenhof take longer, it will also cost more than expected. This includes at least 2 billion euros, Minister of Housing and Housing De Jonge reported in March.
