How will you remember the Haason Reddick era with the New York Jets?
The New York Jets made a trade to the Philadelphia Eagles for Reddick on April 1. Reddick wanted a better contract, but he held out until Monday when he asked for a trade. Hopefully you didn’t buy Reddick’s original New York Jets jersey.
If the New York Jets sign Reddick, almost every team should look to sign him. There are two players who have scored more than 10 touchdowns in each of the past four seasons: Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns and Reddick. Every team in the NFL wants to add an additional offensive player before the season starts.
While almost every team (Including the New York Jets, who insist they won’t trade Brady.) Reddick could use, what are the best landing spots for the veteran forward?
The Falcons haven’t had a top-notch pass rusher in years, and instead of selecting a pass rusher in the first round of the NFL Draft, they selected quarterback Michael Penix Jr. The Falcons have a lot of momentum from the offseason, but they still need help with their pass attack.
Redick would give this player instant credibility, and for a team that is a contender to win the NFC South, that would be a huge addition heading into the season.
The Bears gained one offensive player last season when they traded for Monte Sweet from the Washington Commanders. When Sweet arrived, the Bears’ defense improved immediately. The only problem in the postseason was that the Bears didn’t get a backup offensive player to help Sweet avoid double teams.
The Bears would be more dangerous along the defensive line with Redick. They have enough cap space for him. The question is whether to trade future draft capital for a 29-year-old while the Bears are still building, but it would be fun.
Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon knows Reddick from his time as the Eagles’ defensive coordinator, and the Cardinals need help on defense. They’re talent-poor on that side of the ball, though some of the younger players on their line impressed in the preseason opener. This is another team that might not be wise to trade draft picks during a rebuild, but Reddick would instantly become the Cardinals’ best defensive lineman. Plus, he’s familiar with the franchise, having been a first-round pick out of Arizona and played there from 2017-20.
Much of the Dolphins’ defensive success hinges on the health of Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb after season-ending injuries. Getting Redick would help ease that pressure. The loss of Shaq Barrett to a surprise retirement early in camp didn’t help. The Dolphins aren’t afraid to trade up for established players. That’s how they ended up with Tyreek Hill and Jalen Ramsey. The Dolphins barely missed out on winning the AFC East last season and may have the itch to win now.
Philadelphia Eagles
Okay, that’s not going to happen. But admit it: It would be incredible if the Eagles paid a hefty sum to buy Reddick back in a trade.
Why not? The Chiefs are a team that doesn’t give up easily; winning a third straight Super Bowl would make history. The Chiefs’ defense is very good and they’re very strong up front, but who wouldn’t want to add a player coming off an 11-goal season? The Chiefs may not be able to do that given Redick’s desire to extend his contract, but it’s a fun scenario to contemplate.
