‘Benefiting from economic growth’: PvdA and GroenLinks want more purchasing power

According to the Central Planning Bureau (CPB) Purchasing power will remain the same in 2022Despite strong economic growth. “People are victims of slow government formation,” says PvdA MP Henk Niebuhr.

Minimum wage hike

As long as there is no progress in formation, everything will remain the same and companies in particular can count on tax exemption. He believes it “must be different”. For example, the party believes that people who work in the field of care should receive a salary increase.

According to Nijbauer, the two billion euros that will go towards the profit tax reduction should be used to increase purchasing power. “This is possible with a higher pension, a higher minimum wage and lower taxes for people who live alone,” the PvdA member explains. “This way everyone can benefit from economic growth.”

His colleague Bart Snels of GroenLinks has also denounced the “pull” of VVD and CDA in particular, and wants a different path.

According to him, companies will already benefit enough from the strong economic recovery in the coming years. “They don’t need a tax break on top of that.”

PvdA and GroenLinks have expressed their willingness to participate in discussions about a new government alliance, but they only want to do it together.

VVD and CDA are not in favor of cooperating with both left parties, also because they are not necessary for a majority in the House of Representatives.
