The Lowman Student Center Kat Klub will host several tournaments this month, including Blackjack, Texas Hold’em, Table Tennis and 9-Ball.
The free Blackjack tournament will take place today, Nov. 1, at 5 p.m.
“It’s just like it is on television,” said Gary Roark, Assistant Operations Supervisor for the Kat Klub.
The tournament will consist of two sessions – 21 hands of Blackjack each.
Roark said there will be approximately six tables set up. The winner of each table will advance to the second session to play for all of the fake money.
There will be four, free Texas Hold’em tournaments – Nov. 7-8 and Nov. 28-9 – at 5 p.m. in the Kat Klub.
“Texas Hold’em is popular all over the country,” Roark said. “We were probably one of the first schools to do it.”
Roark said this tournament will also feature six tables of players. He said after people are eliminated, there will be a table of finalists. Winner will take all in this tournament as well.
Billiards enthusiasts will be able to participate in a 9-Ball Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. for a one-dollar cover charge.
Roark said members of the Billiards Team – which was established 20 years ago – will probably play in this tournament as well.
Finally, the Table Tennis tournament will be held at 5 p.m. on Nov. 13.
The Kat Klub is located on the first floor of the LSC next to the Theater. Roark said the Klub was established in 1981 as the Game Room. After three years of renovations and changes in early 2000, a contest was launched for a new name.
The “Kat Klub” reopened in 2003 and has been in operation ever since.
‘We’ve got pool tables, arcades, TV rooms, big screen TVs and four computers,” Roark said. “You can also reserve the entire Kat Klub for an hour for one-hundred dollars.”
He also said students and staff can rent individual TV rooms for a fee.
For the World Series last week, Roark said the Kat Klub hosted a viewing party with free food and games.
He said there will be a Super Bowl party next semester as well.
