Last Saturday, the Office of International Program hosted its first ever “Ponies and Pumpkins” international student event.

International students got the opportunity to learn about Halloween with food and activities. Students went horseback riding, played horseshoes, fished, played volleyball and badminton and even carved pumpkins.

The event took place at International Student Advisor, Ms. Tina L. Singleton’s house.

Since Halloween only celebrated in the United States, some of the international students had never experienced the holiday before.

“It was so much fun,” Yujiro Sakurai, an international student from Japan said. “It was my first time to carve pumpkins and ride a horse. I enjoyed them a lot.”

“I thought the party was the best ever. I loved the fact that everyone just went where they wanted and did what they wanted to do. It was so much fun for me to see they all having a great time Texas style. I thought the international students would love to see what it’s like to spend a day in the wide open country with pastures all around and cows and ponds and horses. I think everyone had a good time just getting out of the city and being able to have lots of space to roam and play,” Singleton said.
