Alpha Psi Omega, the theater honors fraternity, is hosting a dodge ball tournament on Oct. 30 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“After we saw the movie, we wanted to play dodge ball, so we thought why not have a fundraiser,” said Steven Kemp, president of Alpha Psi Omega. All of the money raised will go toward student scholarships.

“There are a small amount of scholarships available through the department, so we are the alternative,” said Kemp. “Last year we gave away 10 scholarships totaling $2000.”

The tournament also allows different organizations to get together to play the game.

“We wanted to get involved with other organizations because we usually don’t get to since we have rehearsal schedules,” said Richard Chamblin, coordinator of the tournament.

The tournament is open to all students, faculty and staff and will be held in one of the gyms in the Health and Kinesiology Center. The entry fee for all participants is $5. The winning team will receive a trophy and a cash prize. Participants may register at the dodge ball registration table in the mall area Monday through Wednesday or by calling 291-3211. The registration deadline is Oct. 29. Teams need at least six players but no more than eight.

Alpha Psi Omega hosts various events throughout the year to serve the theater department, university and community.
