Did you know that SHSU had a pool team? There has been a team since 1987–the year they played their first game and beat Texas A&M University. The pool team, now active, will participate in their first tournament of the year at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Yesterdays Game Room in College Station off of Texas Ave. Recreation Supervisor, Gary Roark, said, “any student who likes to play can participate. “We’re going to have fun; that’s the key.” This weekend SHSU will compete against other pool teams from Texas A&M University, University of Texas, University of North Texas, University of Texas at Arlington, University of Texas at San Antonio, Texas State University at San Marcos, Southern Methodist University, Baylor University and Blinn College. The SHSU pool team will host its own tournament on Oct. 10 and 11 at the Kat Klub in which the same schools will attend and compete.Roark said that each year after all of the tournaments, the number one player goes on to compete in the Associations of College Unions International where there is a male and female division. “Sam has sent more people to the A.C.U.I. than any other school since 1987,” said Roark.SHSU had the number one pool team from 1987-1999 in region 12.
