The rugby team posted a 17-10 win over Division-I 2000 champion Texas A&M Saturday in a non-division game, giving them with a 4-0 record for the season.Performances by Andy Bass, Kenneth Hepburn and Kirby Dorman shut down the No. 1 ranked team.Bass scored twice for the Bearkats, while both Hepburn and Dorman ran the ball hard throughout the game.Dorman also played well in the pack and was excellent in the line-up, according to Gabe Grant, president.”We played really well as a team without the guys who were at the other tournament,” Grant said. “I think it was the turning point of the season with the way we played together without the All-Stars.”The win leaves them at the top of the league in first place.Missing from the line-up were Casey Dillon, Dennis Walker and Cornell Swain, who are all members of the Texas Select Collegiate All-Star Team. The Select team was in Norman, Ok., competing with several all-star teams from around the country. The Texas team won the tournament. The three will return to play with the SHSU team Nov. 17 against No. 2 Texas Tech in Dallas at 1:30 p.m.Grant said the absence of the three, “makes us that much better because we know we can do it without them, but rugby is the ultimate team game.”
