Confun Mitchell, a 21-year-old Huntsville resident, is being held on a $25,000 bond for sexual assault. Mitchell was arrested April 22 after a 20-year-old female student reported that she had been sexually assaulted on the grounds of the Sam Houston Memorial Museum. Mitchell and two other males were in the bed of a truck leaving Quarter’s to go to Jack in the Box when a friend dropped the victim off at her residence hall. The three men approached the girl and Mitchell asked to escort her to her room. She would not let him in her dorm so they went to the museum to talk. According to the girl, Mitchell then assaulted her while the other two males watched. She reported the assault to the University Police Department upon returning to her residence hall. The victim was taken to Huntsville Memorial Hospital where she met with members of the University Sexual Assault Crisis Team and was examined by a physician. UPD officials obtained descriptions of the men and broadcast the information to all local law enforcement agencies. At approximately 3:35 a.m. the Huntsville Police Department reported that they had located three subjects on Bearkat Boulevard matching the descriptions given by the victimMitchell, a 16-year-old Hispanic male and a 20-year-old black male. The subjects were detained and UPD officers interviewed two of them. After evidence was reviewed by the Walker County criminal district attorney’s office, a formal complaint was prepared charging Mitchell with the offense of sexual assault, a second-degree felony. The complaint was presented to Judge Janie Farris, of Justice Court No.1, and she issued a warrant for Mitchells arrest. He was picked up at his home at 1:15 p.m. and remains in custody.
